VIENNA ON THE MOVE
fashion & fine art
Tokyo Fashion Week
March 2016

MARCH 16TH – 19TH 2015
LIGHT BOX STUDIO - AOYAMA / TOKYO
PART OF TOKYO FASHION WEEK

VIENNA ON THE MOVE presented the new collections for Autumn/Winter 2016 of 9 fashion labels as well as artworks from 6 artists, all based in Vienna and referring to the context of migration.

VIENNA ON THE MOVE is referring to Vienna as a contemporary city in Europe, defined by the heterogeneity of its inhabitants. Historically Vienna was always a city of coexisting heterogeneous cultures – ranging from an antique Roman settlement up to the capital of the Empire of Habsburg monarchy until the early 20th century. And up to the presence, Viennese culture is increasingly defined by its inhabitants who moved there from heterogeneous national and cultural backgrounds. In this way the urban thread of Vienna is intrinsically linked to processes of migration and a new mapping of cultures enriching the spectrum at site. The project aims to present Viennese culture and arts as a result of heterogeneous influences from a variety of cultural backgrounds and as a lively and critical expertise in developing forms and politics of heterogeneity.

mode blogg

ALMOST A BOOK, YET A BOOKLET AND MORE THAN A BLOG,
A HYBRID OF THEORY AND PRACTICE,
SIMULTANEOUSLY BOTH AND OUT OF CALIBRATION,
ALTERED TO SUIT THE SUBJECT AND YET EXCESSIVELY,
MERELY TURNED TO FASHION.

»MODE BLOGG« IS A PUBLICATION BASED ON A SERIES OF PROJECTS THAT HAVE BEEN REALIZED IN COOPERATION BY SIGHT (A MULTI-LABEL STORE FOR CONTEMPORARY FASHION IN VIENNA RUN BY VIVIEN SAKURA BRANDL), THE ARTIST AND GRAPHIC DESIGNER MARIO KIESENHOFER AND THE CULTURAL THEORIST ANDREAS SPIEGL. THE AIM OF THE PROJECTS HAS BEEN THE MEDIATION OF FASHION IN DIALOGUE WITH OTHER ARTISTIC GENRES IN ORDER TO LOCATING IT IN REALMS OF INTER- AND TRANSDISCIPLINARITY. IN CORRESPONDENCE WITH FINE ARTS AND ARCHITECTURE ONE COULD GRASP THE CULTURAL AND POLITICAL RANGE OF FASHION – ITS FORM AS A MODE TO DISLIKE THE NORMATIVE FIGURES OF THE ANXIETIES TO PLEASE.

THE PRODUCTION OF »MODE BLOGG« WAS RENDERED POSSIBLE DUE TO THE GENEROUS SUPPORT BY »WIRTSCHAFTSAGENTUR WIEN« (FORMERLY »DEPARTURE«) AND THE AUSTRIAN »BUNDESKANZLERAMT« (BKA).

EDITED BY VIVIEN SAKURA BRANDL, MARIO KIESENHOFER AND ANDREAS SPIEGL
